The 2026 Music in PyeongChang (MPyC), under Artistic Director Sung-Won Yang, will be hosted by Gangwon State and organized by the Gangwon Art & Culture Foundation. The 11-day festival runs from July 23 (Thu) to August 2 (Sun) at the Alpensia Concert Hall and Music Tent in Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang, and the surrounding vicinity in Gangwon State.
Now in its 23rd edition, the festival is presented under the theme “Legacy and Innovation.” Artistic Director Yang explains: “This theme reflects our belief that the works created by composers over the centuries are not merely products of the past, but a living artistic foundation from which new creation continues to emerge." He adds: "Within this artistic continuum, we seek to explore how legacy give rise to innovation, and how art can resonate with the deepest aspects of human experience while becoming the language of our own time.” Reflecting this vision, this year’s festival is conceived as a single artistic journey rather than a series of individual performances. Yang notes, “Each concert forms part of a larger narrative, allowing audiences to experience a continuous musical flow throughout the festival.”
The festival will feature 19 Concerts, 10 Outreach Concerts, 5 Family Outreach Concerts, and the MPyC Academy’s core educational programs—the Chamber Music Mentorship Program and Masterclass—along with Additional Events, including Lectures and Coffee with Artists.
